Tips For Getting The Best Price On New Luxury Cars
An elderly gentleman I once knew with a lot of money told me to always buy a used luxury car to get the best deal. And you know what? He was right on the money! Speaking from personal experience, the best deal I ever got was on a used BMW 7 series. My wife and I needed a vehicle a few years back, and owning an American car all my life, we took a ride to the local Buick dealership. She wasn’t impressed, not in the least bit! So here we go, back and forth discussing the merits of owning a decent American car. Now it doesn’t mean as much as in the good old days, when a majority of the cars were manufactured here in the USA. Since I always believed in supporting our country as much as possible, I just couldn’t see purchasing an expensive car, American or foreign. But when we were on the Buick car lot, something happened that changed my mind forever! The salesman took us around to see the used cars, in the price range around 20k. Since my previous vehicle was a Chevy Corsica, and I had got over 200,000 miles with it, I wanted to stay with an American one as the Buick dealership had Chevy’s on the lot. I needed to excuse myself to run to the men’s room, and when I got out the salesman had my wife all the way down the end of the lot and they were looking at a BMW 530li! My first thought was that this was way beyond our price range, but as soon as my wife sat in the car and felt the firm driver’s seat, that was it! Clever salesman….. The funny thing was that when the salesman told us to take it home for a few days and drive it around, we were sold. The car felt like it was riding on rails, and I fell in love with it as well. So we bought it! After a few years, I had my sights set on the 7 series, a very expensive luxury car to say the least! But when the new 7 models came out back in 2002, with a complete re-design, there were nothing but problems with the I-drive computer system. The salesman promised me that BMW had fixed all the bugs in the system, and not to worry as he would throw into the deal an extended warranty. Also, and this is the best part, we were getting this car with a 20k savings! That’s right, previous owners were trading in these vehicles right and left, as they were fed up with software problems. Either they didn’t want to wait around to have it serviced, or they were just too exasperated to care, but the net result was a huge savings for us! The BMW 7 series is really in a class by itself. Talk about a luxury car that drives like a sports car! This is a phenomenal machine, and it’s solid construction just makes one feel very safe on the road. Since that fateful day on the Buick dealership lot, when we purchased our first BMW, we have remained loyal customers. Also, because we took advantage of the huge price discount due to the software problem, which was completely fixed by BMW, our ability to upgrade economically has allowed us to remain die-hard fans of these wonderful cars. The biggest depreciation of all is with luxury cars, so never buy them new. You will benefit in the long run if you look for a good, used luxury vehicle, and since someone else has already “paid” the depreciation on it, the end result is driving in comfort for you and your family!
